Sightseeing Highlights

St. John’s
Considered to be the oldest settlement in North America, St. John's is the capital of the province of Newfoundland and the largest city with over 200,000 people. Believed to be named after St. John, the city is often compared to the US city of San Francisco with its hilly streets and colorful buildings. With the first settlers of marine-oriented people arriving 9,000 years ago, Newfoundland has numerous European influences from the Vikings and Leif Erickson, to Portuguese and Dutch sailors and some of the more lasting immigrants from England and Ireland.

Quidi Vidi Village
A village in a city, Quidi Vidi (pronounced Kiddy Viddy) is a 400-year-old fishing village about a mile outside of St. John's. Dedicated to the preservation of Newfoundland's arts and crafts, it is also home to the Quidi Vidi Brewery founded in 1996. One of the specialties featured at the brewery is Iceberg, said to be crafted with water from 25,000 year-old icebergs.

Gros Morne National Park
The second largest National Park in eastern Canada, Gros Morne has been a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Named for the second highest peak in the park, it is translated from the French meaning "large mountain standing alone." The large park provides a number of outdoor activities for those wanting to see its freshwater fjords, bogs, waterfalls, barren lowlands and striking cliffs.

Viking Trail
The Viking Trail is the largest themed highway in Newfoundland and Labrador, going from Newfoundland's west coast to South Labrador. It is the only route that takes you to Gros Morne National Park and L'Anse aux Meadows. It stretches through beautiful scenery, natural wonders, and history and culture of the region.

L'Anse aux Meadows
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1978, L'Anse aux Meadows is located at the tip of Newfound's Great Northern Peninsula. It is where the first known evidence of Europeans in North America was found, and you can even view original artifacts from the site there today.
